iPads and tablets helping to keep patients connected with their loved ones

Following an appeal to the Northamptonshire community for donations to support local NHS staff and patients during the current pandemic, Northamptonshire Health Charity would like to share some beautiful words of thanks from a family who have benefited from the generosity that has been shown.

Jordan Anderson contacted the charity recently because she is eager to share how much of a huge difference having access to an iPad has had for her dad, Gordon and their whole family.  Gordon is a COVID-19 patient in the Intensive Therapy Unit at Northampton General Hospital.  “This is an incredibly difficult time,” says Jordan, “and it breaks our hearts to know that he’s in there on his own.  My dad is critically ill and we can’t even be there with him.  We can’t hold his hand, hug him or kiss his cheek. It’s scary!”

There are restrictions on visiting the hospital to help protect patients and staff and stop the spread of coronavirus. Thanks to the iPads and tablets that have been donated by the local community in response to the charity appeal, the Anderson family were at least able to see Gordon.

“I would just like to say a massive thank you to the people who have donated iPads and tablets to Northamptonshire Health Charity,” Jordan continues, “To be able to see my dad’s face on a screen, it was the closest thing we are going to get!  My family and I are eternally grateful for the opportunity you have given us!”

This very personal thanks from Jordan, Gordon and their family goes out directly to everyone who has purchased and donated iPads and tablets.  It is your generosity that has made this possible.  “We would like to thank everybody who has purchased from our Amazon wish list over the last few weeks.  No matter how big or small your purchase, your kindness is making a huge difference to the local NHS staff and patients at Northampton General and across the community and mental health hospitals,” said Rob Powell, Community Fundraiser, “Some of the messages we have been receiving in the packages are really heart-warming too and we will share as many as we possibly can with the staff.”
