Local families in need of emotional and practical support have been given a lifeline this Christmas thanks to the generosity of Home-Start Northampton sponsors and donors.

The charity’s annual sports dinner, held on 1 December at the Old Northamptonians Rugby Club, has raised more than £15,000. The money will now be used to support a network of community volunteers all trained offer friendship and practical help to families under stress and prevent family crises and breakdown.

Hosted by Home-Start Northampton patron and ex-Saints and England rugby player Paul Grayson, the event saw attendees splash the cash on a raffle and special auction, which included a limited-edition rugby ball signed by the 2003 world-cup winning England team.

Former fly-half Paul was joined by ex-winger Chris Ashton as well as Rugby Union correspondent Chris Jones to co-host the event, which was also supported by several Northamptonshire businesses.

Main sponsors of the event included Blasons Sound and Vision Northampton, Tyler Packaging Leamington Spa, and Infinity Fine Jewellery Brixworth, with further support from Renee’s Clothing, Castle Ashby Deli, Morrisons and John Lewis.
