Strictly Northampton raises over 38k for Cynthia Spencer Hospice

Posted 9th November 2023

Strictly Northampton 2023 is gearing up for a spectacular night of dance and fundraising, with the stage set to come alive in just under three weeks. The annual event, organized by professional dancer Andrzej Mialkowski, is not only a dazzling display of talent, but also a heartfelt initiative to support local charity Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

This year’s event has already raised an impressive £38,000, with time still to spare to raise even more. The money raised will ensure that Cynthia Spencer’s team can continue caring for patients and their families. Just £30 could help pay for a memory box for a child.

The competition will see 36 couples take to the stage, who have all been diligently preparing their routines. The diversity and creativity in dance styles throughout the decades, from the lively jive to the passionate tango, promise to captivate the audience. It was also announced earlier this week that guest judge on the night will be dancer and choreographer AJ Pritchard.

Andrzej Mialkowski, the driving force behind Strictly Northampton, founded the show and has been tirelessly organizing and producing it annually. His commitment has ensured the event’s continued success and growth, making this year’s edition the biggest yet.

Andrzej said: “Strictly has grown more than I could’ve ever imagined. We have more contestants, a bigger audience and we’ve been raising even more money. We’re the biggest fundraiser for Cynthia Spencer, last year we raised 50k and I’m hoping this year to beat that!”

As part of the fundraising efforts, each novice dancer is tasked with raising £1,000 for the cause. This financial support will go a long way in providing palliative care for individuals with life-limiting conditions and their families across the county. The impact of their efforts extends far beyond the dance floor, reaching those in need of compassionate care and support.

Jenny Standen, Community Fundraiser for Cynthia Spencer said: “Strictly Northampton is such a vital and wonderful part of our fundraising calendar. Step by Step Dance School go above and beyond to train an amazing team of dedicated contestants each year, and each contestant does a brilliant job of fundraising whilst they are training!

“Without their bake sales, pamper sessions and yoga classes, Strictly Northampton would not be the success it is. All the funds raised go directly to support our invaluable work with adults in this community who are living with life limiting illnesses.”
